We are proud to announce plans for a new, high-quality retirement living community that will expand seniors’ living options on the Gold Coast and strengthen our vibrant Parkwood Gardens aged care community.
Ozcare has lodged a Development Application with the City of Gold Coast to expand our existing Ozcare Parkwood Gardens (Labrador) precinct. The proposed development includes a contemporary retirement community designed for people aged over 65, located on a 3.7-hectare site immediately south of the existing aged care facility.
This exciting proposal reflects our long-term commitment to providing modern, connected living options that support independence, wellbeing and a strong sense of community.
Ozcare successfully operates co-located retirement living and aged care communities in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Hervey Bay and North Queensland. These communities enhance the lifestyles of older Queenslanders through the comfort of living in one location, reducing the need to relocate later in life and supporting continuity of care as needs change.
The proposed retirement community will feature 218 apartments and is expected to create more than 150 full-time jobs during construction. The development will also help ease local housing pressures by enabling retirees to rightsize, making more homes available to families across the region.
A thoughtfully designed Ozcare community

The proposed retirement community has been carefully planned to complement the surrounding neighbourhood and natural environment, while offering modern living options for future residents.
Since opening 16 years ago, Ozcare’s Parkwood Gardens aged care facility has embraced its natural surroundings. The new development continues this approach, with a centralised design that protects and enhances mature vegetation and supports local fauna. A 30-metre vegetation buffer is proposed along the southern and eastern boundaries to preserve the site’s natural character.
Supporting the Gold Coast community
Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Mercer, said the organisation is proud to extend on its long-standing relationship with the Gold Coast community.
“Ozcare has had a strong presence on the Gold Coast for decades, operating four aged care facilities that support more than 650 local residents and provide employment opportunities for over 600 community members,” Mr Mercer said.
“We are committed to expanding high-quality retirement living options. Our vision is to create modern, connected communities where residents can enjoy independence, security and a true sense of belonging.
“The addition of retirement living to our Parkwood Gardens precinct will enhance the broader community and provide local retirees with the opportunity to rightsize while remaining connected to familiar surroundings.
“This development will also support housing availability across the region by helping to free up family homes for the next generation.”
A proud history of caring for communities
“Our team is passionate about creating welcoming communities where residents and their families feel valued, supported and connected,” Mr Mercer said.
“This proposed development reflects our commitment to meeting the changing needs of older Australians while continuing to deliver care that puts people first.”
