Starting Your NDIS Plan & Supports
Yellow Divider

Once you have been approved for NDIS, you can begin to look for a provider for your services, known as ‘supports’.

Under the NDIS, you have control over your plan, and the supports you are receiving. This includes what supports you want to receive, when you receive them, where you receive them, and the provider that provides them.

Creating Your Plan

During your planning session with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), you will discuss your goals and decide which supports you want to include in your plan. These might include:

  • Supports from family, friends, mainstream services, and community groups:
These supports are either free or funded by sources other than NDIS, such as Medicare.
  • NDIS supports:
These are the supports that NDIA have found to be ‘reasonable and necessary’ to help you live an ordinary life. You will be provided a budget for a support category, which links to a specific area of your life.
Support Categories

Each support category contains a number of services that you can choose from to help achieve your goals.

You may be funded for Core Supports, which includes assistance with everyday tasks, consumables and social participation. This funding is flexible and allows you to access supports across the three categories that best suit your needs and goals. Transport is funded separately.

In addition to Core Supports, you may also be funded for Capital Supports or Capacity Building supports. Funding for these supports is specifically allocated so you can achieve your goals, so only supports within the allocation can be accessed.

In some cases, you may be approved for a specific support (rather than a category). In this case, only the specified support can be provided using the allocated budget on your plan.

The available support categories are:

Core supports

      Capital supports

      • Assistive technology
      • Home modifications

      Capacity building supports

      Cost of Supports

The NDIA publishes Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits (previously the NDIS Price Guide) to assist participants and providers to understand the way that price controls for supports and services work in the NDIS. Price regulation is in place to ensure that participants receive value for money in the supports that they receive.

For the cost of supports provided by Ozcare to NDIS participants please enquire directly on 1800 Ozcare (1800 692 273) or click below to view our pricing schedule.

There are no out-of-pocket expenses for accessing the supports in your plan. You can choose to purchase more supports than are covered by your funding, however these will be funded by you and not NDIS.  We will provide you with the cost for these services so you know what you’re obliged to pay.

      Finding a Provider

Once you have received your plan, it’s time to find a provider. You can choose to have all of your supports delivered by one provider, or by many.

With an extensive range of NDIS services, Ozcare is able to be a single point of contact to help you organise all of your funded supports, whether we provide the services ourselves or link you with another provider.

We have been providing disability services for more than 25 years, and have a team of skilled carers, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals.

With branches all over Queensland, including day respite centres, we offer you personalised, professional support that can be changed as your needs change.

      Managing Your Budget

There are four ways that you can manage your NDIS plan budget.

      1. Agency:
You can choose to have your plan managed by the NDIA, who will pay your providers directly.
      2. Plan management provider:
You can choose to have your plan managed by a support provider, who will be paid by the NDIA directly.
      3. Self-managed budgets:
You can choose to manage your own budget, where you pay providers directly for services and have the cost of the service reimbursed to your bank account. If you are interested in this option, please see the NDIS information on self-managing your plan.
      4. Transport payments:
Information on NDIS transport funding can be found at NDIS – Transport funding.
      Managing Your Plan and Supports

For supports which are plan managed, you will receive a monthly statement of your services so you can keep track of what you’ve been receiving. You can also check the record of your supports on the myplace participant portal.

If your needs change, your provider will discuss other services that might suit you better within your existing budgets, or support you to request a plan review by the NDIA to change the budgets you have been approved for.
