Canossian Sisters legacy lives on in Oxley Retirement Village

A childhood connection with the Canossian Sisters came full circle when Suzanne Bell moved into her new home at Ozcare’s newest retirement village at Oxley.  Now some of her fondest memories of watching the Sisters at work at her primary school are flooding back.

It is the strong sense of community that has so delighted the former primary school principal as she settles in at her new home at Canossa Gardens Retirement Village.

“I like the friendly atmosphere,” says the 70-year-old.  “People are friendly and helpful and there’s lots of things to get involved in.”

Not far from Seventeen Mile Rocks, where she was raised, Suzanne has revelled in the familiar surrounds, retiring with a picturesque backdrop of bushland.  It is the perfect atmosphere too for her two dogs, Molly and Honey, who have daily walks with Suzanne, who is often joined by other retirees in the active and friendly village community.

As part of a new wave of retirees finding a home at Ozcare’s retirement villages across the state,  Suzanne has VIP access to Ozcare community care services and peace of mind knowing Ozcare Bakhita Villa aged care facility is located next door.

Ozcare’s chief operating officer Damian Foley said it was Ozcare’s mission to give retirees aged-friendly living options. “We are committed to ensuring retirees have the security of knowing that as their needs change, their new environment and provider can change with them.” Mr Foley said.

“Throughout our 25-year history, Ozcare has reached out to those in need and our retirement villages are no different, offering flexible price options for retirees who may feel purchasing a home in a retirement village is out of their reach and supporting village residents with a continuum of care.”

“We’re extremely proud to carry on the 60-year legacy of the Canossian Sisters. As a proudly Catholic, not-for-profit provider, our retirement villages have the benefit of onsite chapels and areas of worship so our residents can continue to enjoy vibrant spiritual lives in their retirement.”

Ozcare currently operates retirement villages co-located with aged-care facilities at the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and in Hervey Bay. A brand-new community is currently under construction at Newstead.
